Read All About It! - Alaska News Online

Alaska is hot these days! Everywhere you turn Alaska seems to come up.

Sarah Palin, our wonderful governor, is McCain’s running mate. I can’t say I was very excited about any of my election choices, but now I feel like I’m voting for someone I know. It was cool coming down through Canada and having Canadians seeing our Alaskan plates and asking about Sarah. She has really put Alaska on the map in a lot of people’s minds.

I also find all the Alaskan themed shows on TV interesting. When I tell people down below that I’m a commercial fisherman, the first thing they ask about is “Deadliest Catch.” I don’t actually crab but I am familiar with some of the boats and a lot of guys that do work out there.

It seems Alaskan shows are popping up everywhere. Just yesterday morning I was watching a special on the History Channel about the truckers that run the Haul Road (Dalton Hwy) to Prudhoe Bay. I’ve also heard about other fishing and mining themed shows but haven’t had a chance to catch them yet.

I’ve put together a list of Alaskan Newspapers that have an online presence. Some or all of their news may be available for free or a subscription fee. This gives you another avenue to check in on us Alaskans. (Note: I usually find the police report in my local paper the most interesting reading ;-) ) Anyone fascinated about Alaska should find some interesting reading here. You might just feel like you have stepped into an episode of “Northern Exposure.”
